Digital Product, Visual, UX & UI Design.
I’m Ben, a freelance digital designer. I blend complex customer needs and business goals into award-winning experiences that are meticulously crafted and effortless to use.
I cover UX and UI, with end to end experience designing large scale e-commerce platforms, mobile apps, wearable apps, design systems, digital branding, data visualisation and online campaigns.
I’ve had the privilege of working with some great companies, including Nike, Rapha, Aston Martin, Dyson, O2, the BBC, Beats by Dr. Dre, General Electric and Lloyds Banking Group.
Experience
Lead Digital Product Designer, Freelance
2023 – Present
Lloyds Banking Group, Rapha, General Electric.
Lead Digital Product Designer, Rapha
2016 – 2023
I managed user experience and design across Rapha’s entire digital platform. As the sole digital designer in the business, I produced UX and UI design for Rapha.cc, Rapha Custom and the Rapha Cycling Club mobile apps – ranging from functional changes to larger re-designs. I worked on user journeys, interaction, brand aesthetic, business goals and functional requirements, seeking to continually evolve the design language in line with the larger brand voice. I liaised and reviewed work with the technology team and developers to ensure everything was created to spec. I collaborated with business owners, marketing, and creative teams to produce concept designs to pitch as part of hero product launches or future vision pieces. I was the guardian of the digital design language, ensuring consistency of experience, typography, and UI elements across all platforms.
Digital Design Director, R/GA
2009 – 2016
I spent 7 years at one of The Webby’s ‘30 Most Iconic Companies in Internet History’ and Campaign’s ‘Digital Innovation Agency of the Decade’ (2009-2019). During that time I created award winning work for some of R/GA’s top clients, and dedicated 3 years to the development of the Nike+ platform. I created digital product design, campaign design, brand design, data visualisation and concept design for mobile apps, smart watches, websites and emerging technology. I also contributed to many pitches, winning the company new work and retaining existing clients. I split my time between London and New York offices.
Creative Designer, Sequence
2007 – 2009
I worked in a small team creating UX and UI design for a range of clients and industries. The work was highly varied, often needing to design vibrant online destinations for the BBC and CBBC alongside information heavy corporate websites for the government.
